Trends in clinical and prognostic characteristics of gastric cardia adenocarcinoma

چکیده
Gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA) is one of the most common malignant tumors in China. In recent years, researchers abroad have reported a significant increase in the incidence rate for GCA. Although there is still no statistical data for the epidemic of GCA in China, some regional research has shown an annual increase in the rates of hospitalization and treatment for this cancer. 4 To understand the clinicopathologic and prognostic characteristics of GCA, we selected 589 patients with adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction seen at the Sun Yatsen University Cance Center between 1984 and 2003. Then, we conducted a retrospective study to analyze their clinicopathologic data and prognostic outcomes. Selection standards included (1) patients with pathologic diagnoses of adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction type II (AEG II) and categorized for staging after surgery and (2) patients with complete followup data, where the time and status of these patients were carefully noted (that is, alive, dead, or withdrawal). Exclusion criteria included (1) clinical data that were not complete and statistical analysis based on these data was not possible and (2) patients that had other malignant tumors or had histories of malignant tumors.

Cytokeratin7 expression in gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma: Correlation with prognostic factors
Background: Gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma are the second and the fifth most common cancers in Iran, respectively. Expression of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) is established in most malignancies including gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma. Demonstration of Ck7 could be related to prognostic factors and help to the better management of the patients. The objective of our study was to evalu...
متن کاملIncidence and survival for gastric and esophageal cancer diagnosed in British Columbia, 1990 to 1999.
BACKGROUND Geographical variation and temporal trends in the incidence of esophageal and gastric cancers vary according to both tumour morphology and organ subsite. Both diseases are among the deadliest forms of cancer. The incidence and survival rates for gastric and esophageal carcinoma in British Columbia (BC) between 1990 and 1999 are described. METHODS Incidence data for the period 1990 ...
متن کاملComparison of cyclooxygenase 2 expression in adenocarcinomas of the gastric cardia and distal oesophagus.
BACKGROUND Adenocarcinomas of the gastric cardia and distal oesophagus are at present often considered as one clinical entity because of their comparable increasing incidence, prognosis, and optimal treatment options. However, it is still a matter of debate whether these malignancies have the same pathogenesis and genotype. AIMS The aim of this study was to analyse expression of cyclooxygenas...
متن کاملDiverging Trends in Recent Population-Based Survival Rates in Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer
BACKGROUND Survival trends in oesophageal and gastric cancer need to be updated. A nationwide Swedish population-based study in 1961-2009 was based on registry data. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Relative survival rate, i.e. the ratio of the observed to the expected survival, adjusted for age, sex, and calendar period, and presented with 95% confidence intervals (CI), was the main outcome me...
متن کاملRESPONSE: re: evaluating gastric cancer misclassification: a potential explanation for the rise in cardia cancer incidence
BACKGROUND Reports of dramatic increases in gastric cardia cancer incidence warrant concern. However, the recent introduction of a separate diagnostic code, the lack of a consensus definition of the cardia area, and the accelerating interest in cardia cancer may affect classification practices. Little is known about the magnitude of cardia cancer misclassification in large cancer registries. ...
